The Fall Season

(courtesy of Google images)
"Fall" has begun to have dual meaning at our house.

  • Bradshaw did a flip off the couch and cut/tore his ear on the edge of the coffee table
  • Bradshaw and Olivia were jumping on our bed and thunked heads--resulting in a screaming match and coordinating black-and-blue goose eggs.
  • The next morning Olivia jumped off the couch and landed flat on her face.  The bridge of her nose was swollen and bruised.
  • Bradshaw accidentally poked me in the eye resulting in a bloody gouge across my right eye.  ...Double takes at the grocery store.
  • Right afterwards, Olivia accidentally cracked me with a brush in the mouth.  It split my lip and loosened 2 bottom right teeth.  Bradshaw was worried about the blood but, a phobia I inherited, all I could think about was saving my teeth.
Bradshaw loves to be airborne; it seems like we're always just a gasp away from a broken bone.  Olivia is a climber--and has made it 4 feet up the bookcase!  It's been far too long since beds, couches and tables posed any challenge for her.

Dustinn must be escaping the contagion at school.

Make us feel better. :)  What's your scariest/worst injury?

Yikes! I don't know if I can top those! Sweetie fell out of her crib and broke her arm when she was 19 or 20 months old. I once sliced my finger and fingernail while working at Subway. Someone once threw a BIG rock at my head and my HEAD split the rock in two!

Oh no! What a crazy week! Maybe I can make you feel better?
I guess my Mom knows this story better, but when I was 2 I had a black and blue nose for a month straight from various injuries. EC bit through her lip jumping off a kitchen chair. I was with Dustinn in the empty lot next to our Texas house when I fell on a glass bottle. I had stitches across my hand. We've all been bucked off horses, mostly Sam.
And I'm sure no one will ever top my record of breaking my nose 3 times in my life... actually I think it was 4...
Anyway, no worries, all children get hurt. And if your hurt too, that means your active in their life!

Scary! How are all your cuts and bruises fairing?
Good way to think of it, Dani! Love bruises?

I have so many scars I can't even remember where I got them all..a scar on my arm from a flaming marshmallow. haha. a bike chain in the leg, when Elisse accidentely stabbed me with a pencil, ripping my legs on barbed wire fences, broken toes from karate and a black eye from lacrosse. painful at the time, but such good stories to tell.

Motherhood is all about scary moments and injuries. I feel very blessed that we have had so few in our family. I remember finding 2 year old Katy on top of the refrigerator and kids who should know better (Colton jumping off the roof into the pool) doing reckless things. Didn't know how to post it, but I sent you a picture of Nelson.... should bring back some memories for you!

haha! I broke my right talus bone while sledding. I was coming home from youth conference. And I was in the front of the sled and a friend of mine was behind me, and a member of the bishopric at the time pushed us down the hill we drifted to the left and crashed into a snow bank(or rock... not sure exactly...), during the tumble of fun, I felt a pop in my foot.(in that split second I thought "uh oh... that's not good...") when I stopped and laughed for a second. and realized I needed to get up. (during this process I thought to myself, "oh crap I need to get up...") When I tried to move, I couldn't move. to make a long story shorter, I got my x-rays done and was told I had a rare fracter, and I may need surgery(get this, the fracter was multiple small hairline fracters), I didn't believe it, my splint felt like it was 20 pounds and the Dr.(thank heavens) had a dream of how to correctly wrap my foot. He re-wrapped it, before he re-wrapped it, my foot looked like a horse shoe! I didn't end up having surgery, I ended up being on crutches for 4 weeks(I had to wait 2 weeks to start swimming again with my team) then walk in the boot for 2 weeks.

I got in a car accident 3 1/2 years ago... and my car got totaled, and I had lacerations on my face including a cut on my cheeck. I got 22 stiches. After the Scar healed, I had to keep my face out of the sun the whole summer so it wouldn't get worse. I used Mederma to help the scar not be so visible. I used the Mederma for a total of 6-9 months. I can't see my scar on my face! It's nice! haha! probably the best part about the stitches was I worked at Cinemark at the time, and Pirates of the Caribbean:At world's end came out the weekend after the car accident. And people asked if my stitches were make-up! It was great! :D

Oh Erika, I remember when Sweetie broke her arm so sad she was so little.
I'm so nervous for a broken bone (I've never had one and not a single person in my family had one until they were in college) but it's only a matter of time until Bradshaw or Olivia gets one. They are both dare devils! A year ago I never would've thought Bradshaw would be...and Olivia's off the charts for her age. Brave.

Thanks Dani, that's an extremely positive way to look at it!

Although, I should occasionally tell myself "get your face outta the way!" haha

Mom, I got your email. Dustinn and I both agree the picture was nauseating. Sorry you had to go through that mom.
